Honda Grom Exhaust Guide: Slip-On or Full System?

By Hindle
5 min read

The best Honda Grom exhaust depends on your Grom's generation and how much you want to change. A slip-on swaps the muffler and link pipe and keeps the stock header, so it is the simpler upgrade. A full system replaces the header too. Match your model year first: 2014-2016, 2017-2021 and 2022-2025 Groms each take different systems.

Slip-on vs full system on a Grom

A slip-on replaces the stock muffler and mid-pipe and connects to the factory header. It is the quickest way to change the sound and look of a Grom, and Hindle builds one for the first-generation 2014-2016 bike. A full system replaces the exhaust from front to back, header to muffler. Hindle builds full systems for all three Grom generations, and every one includes the muffler.

Either way, riders make the switch for three things: a deeper, louder note, less weight at the back of the bike, and crisper throttle response. A full system changes more of the exhaust, so the change in character is bigger. Sound, weight and feel are the reasons Grom owners upgrade. Muffler and end cap choices

The 2014-2016 slip-on comes with a choice of four Oval street mufflers: Stealth Oval brushed stainless steel, Stealth Oval black Cerakote stainless steel, Stealth Oval brushed titanium and Supersport Oval carbon fiber. Its end cap comes in stainless or black ceramic coated.

The 2022-2025 Evo Muffler System lets you pick the Evolution muffler in brushed stainless steel, black Cerakote stainless steel, brushed titanium or carbon fiber.

The Evo Megaphone systems for every generation, and the Evo Muffler System, take a stainless, black ceramic coated or carbon fiber end cap. The 2014-2016 High Megaphone offers a black ceramic coated or carbon fiber end cap as an option. Where a system comes in stainless or black, each finish has its own listing, so pick the finish in the product name and the muffler and end cap on the product page.

Tuning and the air filter

A slip-on generally runs well on the stock setup for street riding. A full system replaces the header, which changes airflow more, so plan the fuelling side as part of the job. Our guide Does an Aftermarket Motorcycle Exhaust Require ECU Tuning? walks through slip-ons, full systems and fuel controllers in detail.

For 2014-2021 Groms, Hindle lists the Power Commander V for the Honda Grom and the Power Commander V with AutoTune, both for 2014-2021 bikes. Hindle also offers in-house dyno tuning. For a 2022-2025 Grom, contact us and we will talk through fuelling for your setup.

To finish the job on a 2014-2020 Grom, add the Honda Grom 2014-2020 DNA High Performance Filter. It is washable and reusable and drops into the factory airbox.

How to order the right system

  1. Pick your model year: 2014-2016, 2017-2021 or 2022-2025.
  2. Pick slip-on or full system: the slip-on is the 2014-2016 option, and 2017-2021 and 2022-2025 Groms take a full system.
  3. Pick your finish, muffler and end cap: choose the stainless or black listing, then set the muffler and end cap on the product page.
